#### What does a podiatrist do?
Podiatry (literally: “the study of the foot”) is a discipline focused on preventing and treating foot function disorders and foot complaints, as well as the resulting complaints of the posture and musculoskeletal system.

Podiatry works according to the method of biomechanics, distinguishing between application in daily living (ADL) and in sports.

Therapy consists of applying corrective or protective techniques to the foot, such as orthoses and shoe and insole corrections, and advising patients to prevent and combat foot conditions.

#### What are podiatric insoles?
Handmade podiatric insoles are custom-made for the client’s feet. They are used to relieve or prevent foot complaints such as pain, calluses, corns or misalignments. They are made in several steps:

1. An imprint or scan of the foot is made to determine its shape and pressure points.
2. A mould is made from the imprint or scan, on which the insole is shaped.
3. The insole is made from materials that suit the client’s wishes and needs, such as leather, cork, rubber, foam or synthetic material.
4. The insole is cut to size and finished with a top layer and any corrections.
5. Finally the insole is fitted and tested to see whether it is comfortable and has the desired effect.
